Week 6 - Progress

Not much new to report! I'm mooostly on-track with animation. So far, I've had to push one less-important shot to another week, and I've been having a little trouble I like to call going "off-boards" when I finally get around to animating. Sometimes when two drawings do the trick for an animatic, you realize that those two drawings were accounting for 8 seconds of animation...and it's easy to want to make every second count!

I'm starting to become a little worried that my schedule/point system were overambitious, because well, my semester hasn't really hit full-gear until about now. I hope I can stay on-track with the schedule alongside the papers and midterms I'm about to have coming up...as well as doing some job-searching...future-planning...and another job that I'll start later this month. I'm sure it'll be fine...

I'm still working on casting actors -- got some important dialogue to one who is working for me remotely, and I'm pretty sure I've got a good candidate for Giulia (who has about 2 lines). I just need to find someone to play an old man (might not be so high priority), and I need to get some classmates to yawn for me for scratch "dialogue." I've scheduled my dialogue-driven shots for closer to last though, so I've still got a little bit of time to figure that stuff out.

Anyway, here's a couple shots I've animated over the last week! This coming week is a little lighter (animation-wise...and starting next week, I'll start having to do some real classwork). So that said, I'm going to try and finish early so I can focus on cleaning up my finished animation so I can pass that along to my colorists. I'd also like to finish a proof-of-concept shot before Thanksgiving so I can figure out if I'll be lighting my shots...what the backgrounds will require of me etc.

  1. Oh dear. It's hard to balance a job with all of the demands of senior year.

The animation is excellent! This is the first time I have seen your work. Nice timing!

If you are concerned about your schedule you may want to think of a "Plan B" and animate your least important shots last. That way you could discard them if you run out of time. For example, the scene with the boy and girl kissing is beautiful, but the film would still be strong without it.

Try to take care of yourself and schedule in some down time!
