A Boring but Necessary Task Completed
This week, I created a shot list for Caffè, a value denomination system, a production schedule and a budget.
Things are finally taking shape, and all that's really left is the will-power and hard work it'll take to stick to my schedule! Things fell a little off the wagon this weekend because some friends from my time studying abroad in Italy came to visit for Labor Day weekend: it was a nice symbolic (and financial) farewell to summer fun....time to really switch into grind-mode and get to animating!
Tomorrow I'll head right into the lab to start making progress on some shorts: I've got my rough background layouts and a hefty set of character turnarounds and designs to guide me.
OTHER UPDATES:
I pitched at the DADA thesis pitch presentation set up by MFA third-year Ann Lee, which was an awesome opportunity (THANK YOU ANN!!). I walked in expecting a few rows of people and was greeted by a nearly-packed theater. After pitching my film I received tons of emails from people expressing interest in helping out with coloring frames, composing, and a couple stray Italians who said they'd be happy to tell me a thing or two about bars. Though I'm still on the look out for a sound designer, my amazing Italian penpal has recorded me some ambient noise from a busy bar in Milan: I definitely have plenty of material to work from. He and I are going to work on writing out some believably-Italian dialogue, and then I'll start assigning parts this week to the various actors I've been able to connect with.
My storyboards are complete (I promise!!!); but I haven't uploaded a video file yet because I'm still working on timing. I hope to post that tonight!!! In the meantime, here's some new character designs and turnarounds that I've sketched up for reference.
This week, I plan to meet with a couple prospective colorists, so I'm adding a colored shot (a new proof of concept still, essentially) to the task-list.

Maurizio -- an angry Italian businessman whose dialogue will definitely need some finesse... |
Congratulations on all of the interest by potential collaborators! I am so impressed by Ann. Hopefully the feedback you received today was useful. You may want to contact Bethany for advice on looking for a sound designer.
